Taking care of your wood burner.

Here are a few steps that can be undertaken to insure your log burner runs effieciently and improves the life of your stoves.

 

1. Please allow the appliance to cool after its been used.

2. Take care removing  the following internal parts – baffle plate, firebricks, grate and ashpan. When removing the firebricks please be aware that they can be very fragile.

3. Brush out or vacuum the remaining ash and debris from inside the wood burner.

4. Use a wire brush and scraper inside the firebox to remove existing debris. Clean the grate and any grate parts with a wire brush and check for any damage to the internal parts. Vacuum the firebox again.

5. Use a soft brush to clean firebricks, damaged or broken bricks should be replaced.

6. Re-fit all cleaned internal parts and any new parts that might have been needed.

7.  The glass from the door can be removed and check or discard old and worn rope seal

8. Clean old glue from the channel which held the rope seal using a wire brush or a wire wheel.

9. Replace the new rope seal, gluing into place with a stove glue adhesive, and re-fit the glass.

10. Lightly oil the door lock mechanism and door pins/bolts.

11. The exterior look of your stove or log burner can be cleaned and painted using special heat proof aerosol paint, This can be done when the glass has been removed to insure no paint gets onto the glass surface.
